So, I’ve been sitting on this story for a long while. I didn’t want it to turn into a guessing game.

Anyway… I met this guy. Not online. It was almost old-fashioned. He was a friend of a friend or something like that. Someone I was excited about meeting, at first. He was smart and funny and great on paper. So after meeting and exchanging lots of emails and coordinating complicated schedules we went out on a date. One date.

Honestly, we didn’t really hit it off. OK, that’s an understatement. I thought he came off like an arrogant jerk. And I know from arrogant jerks, having dated quite a few of them.

Anyway, he asked me out for a second date and after mulling it over for a half second I politely declined. Skip ahead a few months and I see his name in the NYTimes. He’d done something remarkable and everyone was talking about him and what a wonderful person he was. Of course, I read the article. I especially loved the part about his fiancee. I did a tiny bit of digging and found out that they’d been together forever.

So Mr. Wonderful had gone out with me while engaged.

I know that shit like happens all the time. Every minute of every day, somewhere on this little planet we call earth. I just thought it was funny/weird, that I found out in NYTimes. I mean, I could’ve theoretically still been dating the jerk. Behind his fiancees back. Now THAT would’ve funny!

Anthony Weiner is a moron. He was stupid enough to think that ANYTHING he said in a DM on twitter or a private message on facebook would be actually PRIVATE.

Idiot.

And for his stupidity, the voters of his district should have the pleasure of voting him out of office. If that’s what they should choose to do. ’cause clearly the guy ain’t that bright, so…

All that said, I’m utterly shocked at how offended people are by his supposed cheating. Cheating? Really?

Give me a fucking break.

I wasn’t paying much attention to this story, until I saw a poll on The Frisky yesterday, asking readers if flirting over twitter and facebook is cheating. Almost half the people said yes, (“All flirting over social media is disrespectful and unfaithful.”)

WTF? Can someone please explain this to me? How can a few random tweets or messages with someone a guy/girl’s never gonna meet be disrespectful? Even if they exchange naughty pics. It’s all just a fantasy. NOT real life.

Honestly, I think some people are just looking for things to be pissed off about. MORE reasons to disapprove of other’s people’s behavior.

Thanks so much to my amazing friends (especially Jack)who stepped in to keep the blog running while I took a few days off. I’ll do my best to keep things more or less normal around here from now on, but no promises. All I can do is my best.

So, yesterday I was catching up on some of my favorite blogs and came across this post on Naked With Socks On – Should I Tell My BFF His Girl Is Cheating? It describes a very specific situation: guy finds out that a colleague had a thing with his best friend’s girl. The advice was to tell, and most of the comments were along those lines.

I’ve never been in that specific situation. But I have been in the awkward position of knowing that a friend or friend’s significant other is cheating. Many times. I’ve had to sit at dinner with a married couple, who I’ve known for years, with the knowledge that one of them is cheating on the other.

And.. I’ll be honest, I’ve never told. And, in general, I don’t think I ever would. In any situation. I tend to believe it’s best to stay the fuck out of other people’s bedrooms.

What I won’t do is lie for people. I’ve had friends ask me to be their alibi (you know, tell X I’m with you if he calls). Again, I believe it’s best to stay the fuck out of other people’s bedrooms. I won’t tell, but I won’t lie on your behalf.

Maybe this makes me a bad person? I don’t know.

Anyway, I’m curious about you folk. No fancy poll today because I just don’t have the time for it. Plus, I’m more interested in the nuances here. How have you reacted when you’ve learned of friends’ infidelity? Have you ever told anyone that they were being cheated on? Would you?

As I’ve said, many times, I have a lousy memory. Pitiful. I can be looking straight at a person who I’ve met several times and not be able to remember his/her name. It sucks.

But, I can remember faces. And have a pretty easy time remembering where I know a face from.

Speaking of looking at faces… a couple of months ago I was looking at my match.com inbox when I saw a face I recognized. From life. A friend of a friend I’ve met several times over the past few years. I was 99.9% sure it was him. So I read his profile and sure enough, it was definitely him. I assume he didn’t recognize me/my profile.

The bastard.

IRL he’s married. Not on match.com. I was tempted to call our mutual friend and rat him out, but decided it wasn’t any of my business. And I didn’t want to put his close friend (our mutual friend) in an awkward position.

Seriously, though, Match.com with a public picture in a town as small as NYC (it’s a really small town in a lot of ways)? Dumbass!

I was reminded of this, yesterday, when I read Miss Melissa Mae’s hysterical post, Unwitting Homewrecker. And, I’m SURE he’s hooked up with some woman by now. Several women. He’s handsome, charming – all the good stuff. And as he’s advertising himself as single…

Well, I think it’s funny.

So last night I was watching Law & Order (one of them). Well, I wasn’t so much watching it as had it on in the background while I was answering emails.

I couldn’t quite follow the whole show, it seemed to be jumping around. But one thing stood out. There were several female characters (suspects) who expected some guy to leave his wife for them. Then the wife ended up dead.

I’ve written before about my thoughts on married men and dating them (I don’t/don’t think it’s a good thing but as with all things I refuse to condemn other people for the way they choose to live their lives). That said, I’m always amazed when I hear the phrase, “he promised he’d leave his wife”. I’ve heard it in real life, from friends/acquaintances, on more than one occasion and I never know how to react. I kinda want to say, “are you serious?”. Because it just doesn’t sound like the type of thing any grown woman should believe.

Big sloppy tangent here – I love Postsecret. Who doesn’t? This secret was shown this Sunday, with the following note:
