Talk About TMI!!!

Talk About TMI!!! online dating iStock 000014098136XSmall 300x199Speaking of random nonsense. One of the other messages in my inbox must have, certainly, set a record for the most egregious oversharing with a total stranger, ever.

I was informed, by this guy who seemed to want to go out with me (because why else would he be writing) that he’s a recovering addict, formerly homeless and struggling with mental illness.

None of this was in his profile. His profile was actually kind of cool. Amusing, even. But there, in his message to me, was a laundry list of everything that had gone wrong with his life in the past 20 years.

Hmm.

I’ve dated recovering addicts.  And people who were struggling with mental health issues. Grown-ups sometimes have grown-up problems.  But it’s probably not a good idea to go blurting them in onlinedatingland. Probably.

  6. Mel says:

I could never date a guy that’s immediately looking for some sort of sympathy before we’ve even MET. Like, he’ll always be needy, looking for attention. But maybe that’s just my perception. I realize we all have problems as adults, but I don’t go looking for them. Nor do I find most of that kind of baggage attractive.

I agree with commenters above: Hoist the RED FLAG. And RUN.
