Real stories about dating and relationships in New York City. Truth is more interesting than fiction.

How’d I Get Here?

As I’ve mentioned many times before, this whole thing really is new to me.  I started the back in August (of 07 08, so that would make it 8 months ago). Prior to that I hadn’t really read many blogs.  At least not regularly.  And the ones I did read were the big poltical and pop culture blogs.

The very first time I laid eyes on a dating blog was after I decided to start one of my own.  You see, I had a few friends who’d been trying to get me to write a book about my dating life.  They’re like me in that they really didn’t know much about blogs and blogging.  They wanted me to write about dating and since we’re all really book consumers, they suggested I write a book.

I’m not sure when I thought ot the idea of making it a blog.  I must have read something in the Times about somebody who had a blog and anyway, I started to look for dating blogs to see what was out there.  There was a lot out there (well, you know that).  A lot.  And truthfully, I couldn’t relate to a lot of it.  But I wanted to share with you a few of the sites that got me thinking about what my site might be like, once I got started.  And to provide them all with a bit of linklove.

Now, if you’re familiar with these sites you know that my blog doesn’t have much in common with any of them.  Other than that they’re all written by smart women.  But reading them made me realize that I could make my blog into pretty much anything I wanted it to be (and that’s still evolving).

Anyway, that’s how I got here.  I know I still have a long way to go.  And I’m working on it.

And I think you’ve done a great job so far. We’re all still new to this whole blog thing. It takes time. The content is key and you put out amazing content.

I want to start off by saying, “Having been in the dating business for years, I can say that I agree that the best dating sites are the ones that promote safety first. I have seen sites such as http://www.asiapersonals.net or even http://www.30dating.net that promote safety first in the member sign up area. Although most people have good intentions, you never know what that one person is up to and you need to protect yourself always!”

Now, as how you got here and where you are going with your blog…It just depends on what you want to get across. I love the layout of your site. Just let it evolve from whatever inspires you.

I have enjoyed your site very much! I LOVE the sarcastic humor–but I can tell when your are serious. Keep up the good work! I know this will be said to say–but I think some people here would be happy for you to find your mate–but also disappointed that the blog would take a major change. :-) I will also say your blog has gotten me to start a blog as well. I still really don’t know where to take it. I think I want it to be a place to put my experiences and thoughts.

Pssssst! If you started in 8/07 you’ve been going for almost 2 years now. I’m thinking maybe you started in 08. Whatever the start date, glad to have ya here. ;)

hahahaha, Thx onedatewonder. Clearly I don’t even know what year it is. Serves me right for trying to blog after an emotionally exhausting day (are there any other kind? – not for me lately).

Thank you everyone for being so damn supportive, even when I don’t really deserve it. I’m working hard not to let anyone down, most of all, myself.
