Real stories about dating and relationships in New York City. Truth is more interesting than fiction.

The Break Is Over

It’s Official.  My from dating is over.  I have a on Saturday with one of the guys I met on .  That was fast, I know.  But he’s good, really good.

So far he’s done everything right.  His initial message mentioned something very specific and idiosyncratic in my profile, one of those special details I mention to give guys a flavor of the true me (something I’d never mention here because that would be revealing a factoid that ‘s just for someone trying to remain anonymous). It’s something we have in common and we exchanged a few emails about it right away.

And then he mentioned this event/thing he wanted to go to on Saturday.  It’s a very New Yorkery thing to do and it’s something I’ve always wanted to go to but never have.  Perfect for dates.

The thing is, I’m feeling really mellow about this date.  Not that I don’t think I’m going to like this guy. I do.  But I kind of don’t care how it turns out.  I don’t feel like I have anything emotionally invested in it.  Which, I gotta say, is kinda a nice place to be.  For now.

I’m, um, still working on that meditation. It doesn’t come naturally to me. But I’m trying.

That’s exactly how I feel about all the dates I go on from the internet. Somehow the first encounter happens to quickly for me to even get excited about it, and a part of me feels as though if I’m not invested somehow I don’t put out my best effort and neither do they. I hope it goes well for you!

Well, this is kind of a change of habit for me. I’ve been a bit overinvested lately (pre-break). This feels good for a change.
